The DMF fee is a Destination Marketing Fee instituted by the Canmore Hotel and Lodging Association (CHLA)
...to fund Tourism Canmore Kananaskis (TCK) marketing activities; capital projects where appropriate; the creation of new festivals, events and programs in this region and lobbying on behalf of the Canmore Hotel and Lodging Association. It is a 3% fee added to the cost of a hotel stay. Fees are submitted to our trustee – the Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association and funds are disbursed through them, pending board approval of the marketing plan and budget.
As the largest industry in Canmore and growing, sustainable Tourism is crucial to our future. These funds will help to improve the marketing efforts of Tourism Canmore Kananaskis and kick start new Canmore and Kananaskis initiatives.
The DMF Group is comprised of the following Canmore hotels who have been collecting the Destination Marketing Fee.

Get involved
It’s a commitment to supporting our industry. Funds are allocated to Tourism Canmore Kananaskis (TCK) to market the destination.
If you are a hotel owner you understand the need for destination marketing.
The Benefits are clear:
- Greater return on your hotel investment.
- A large portion of membership fees refunded during your first year. You pay only the base rate of $350 in future years. Based on a 100 room hotel this would be an annual savings of $2500.
- Improved marketing of the destination.
- A kick start for new tourism initiatives.
- Higher occupancies and ADR’s.
Meeting our Goals
- In the first year, the Canmore DMF allocated $125,000 to Tourism Canmore Kananaskis for 2009.
- With 27% of Canmore hotels participating (just 19% when factoring in Kananaskis hotels), our goal is to allocate $300,000 for the coming year.
- We will support capital projects; the creation of new festivals, events and programs in this region where the DMF Committee decides is appropriate.
- We will lobby on behalf of the CHLA.
Canmore, we live here, work here and play here, the DMF will only enhance this place we call home. We encourage all hoteliers to get on board! We would be happy to meet with you to explain the details.
The Destination is as important as the Hotel Stay.
